Tour Details

The effects of Hurricane Katrina are still being felt today in New Orleans. This Hurricane Katrina bus tour will take you through many of the areas affected by one of America's worst natural disasters. Your New Orleans tour starts in the French Quarter, the oldest neighborhood in the city and home to the infamous Bourbon Street. You'll head east toward the third-oldest municipality in the city, Faubourg Marigny, known for its bohemian atmosphere and live music scene. Due to its elevation, this neighborhood was spared the majority of Katrina's wrath.

Your next Hurricane Katrina tour stop is Trem, a neighborhood popularized by the HBO series of the same name. Many notable New Orleans musicians call Trem home, such as the Rebirth Brass Band and Shannon Powell; it's also the site of Ernie K-Doe Mother-in-Law Lounge, started by singer Ernie K-Doe and heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina. After your time in Trem, you'll find yourself at St. Louis Cemetery #3 in Faubourg St. John. St. Louis Cemetery #3 is one of three Roman Catholic above-ground burial sites, which are home to both famous -- and infamous -- figures in the city's history, including influential photographe E. J. Bellocq. Before heading back to the French Quarter, your bus will pass by other memorable locations, including Audobon Park and the Lower Garden District, where 19th century architecture and beautiful green landscapes await.

This New Orleans Hurricane Katrina Tour also passes by the 17th street canal levee, which was breached and sent torrents of water into surrounding homes and infrastructure on August 29, 2005, the date Katrina made landfall. Following the hurricane, 31 bodies were recovered from areas directly impacted by the 17th street canal breach. If you want a complete look at New Orleans and its restoration efforts, you won't find a better tour.
